The structural design of die-casting parts is the first step in die-casting work. The rationality of design and process adaptability will affect the smooth progress of subsequent work, such as the selection of parting surfaces, the opening of internal gates, the layout of ejection mechanisms, the difficulty of mold structure and manufacturing, the shrinkage law of alloy solidification, the guarantee of casting accuracy, and the types of defects, all of which are based on the quality of the die casting's own process.

1. Precautions for Design of Die Casting Parts

d. Determination of parting surface for die-casting parts;

The design of die-casting parts is an important part of die-casting production technology. When designing, the following issues must be considered: selection of mold parting surface, opening of gate, selection of top rod position, shrinkage of castings, ensuring dimensional accuracy of castings, prevention of internal defects in castings, requirements for casting holes, requirements for shrinkage deformation, and size of machining allowance;

According to usage requirements, it can be divided into two categories: one is parts that bear large loads or have high relative motion speeds. The inspection items include size, surface quality, chemical composition, and mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation, hardness); The other type is other parts, which are inspected for dimensions, surface quality, and chemical composition. When designing die castings, it should also be noted that the parts should meet the process requirements of die casting. The processability of die casting is considered from the position of the parting surface, the position of the top push rod, the requirements for casting holes, the requirements for shrinkage deformation, and the size of machining allowance. Reasonably determining the parting surface of the die-casting surface can not only simplify the structure of the die-casting mold, but also ensure the quality of the casting.

1) Try to eliminate the internal concave side of the casting as much as possible to make the mold structure simple.

2) Try to make the wall thickness of the casting uniform, and use ribs to reduce the wall thickness and reduce defects such as porosity, shrinkage, and deformation in the casting.

3) Try to eliminate deep holes and cavities on the casting. Because small and thin cores are prone to bending and breaking, deep cavities are poorly filled and vented.

4) The designed castings should be easy to demould and core pull.

5) Homogeneity of flesh thickness is necessary.

6) Avoid sharp corners.

7) Pay attention to the draft angle.

8) Pay attention to the tolerance marking of the product.

9) Neither too thick nor too thin is suitable.

10) Avoid dead corners and chamfers (as little as possible).

11) Consider the difficulty of post processing.

12) Minimize voids within the product as much as possible.

13) Avoid having peninsula style local shapes that are too weak.

14) Neither too long forming holes nor too long forming columns are suitable.
